Boykin Management Company Announces New IACC-EMC Center
Cleveland, OH--December 11, 2003--Boykin Management Company announces the recent completion of
two International Association of Conference Centers (IACC) certified Executive Meeting Centers (EMCs)
at its Doubletree Hotel, in Omaha, Nebraska and Doubletree Hotel & Executive Meeting Center in
Berkeley, California. The two EMCs opened on September 15, 2003 and a third is under construction at
the Doubletree Lloyd Center in Portland, OR, scheduled to open in early 2004. We were fortunate to
have hotels in markets where this type of customer does business and our facilities were well suited
for these retrofits. During the design phase for all three centers, we solicited and adopted valuable
suggestions from focus groups of meeting planners and trainers to insure that the design of the EMCs
meet the needs of our current and prospective customers cited Joe Smith EVP/Director of Operations
of Boykin Management Company.
The Doubletree Hotel & Executive Meeting Center, Omaha
The EMC at the Doubletree Hotel in Omaha was originally designed as a penthouse restaurant. A
conversion of the space on the 19th floor has transformed the space into 8,500 square feet of
state-of-the-art contemporary, technologically advanced meeting space certified to IACC standards.
The Doubletree Hotel & Executive Meeting Center, Berkeley
The Doubletree Hotel at Berkeley Marina recently completed a multi-million dollar facility renovation
resulting in 7,800 square feet of IACC certified, dedicated EMC meeting space. Similar to our Omaha
EMC, the renovation project included the complete renovation of meeting rooms, new breakout areas,
and the addition of a technology room, conferencing rooms, and upgrades to the public and reception
areas.
The renovation project for both facilities included meeting rooms, breakout areas, a technology room,
conferencing rooms, and public areas. Every meeting room hosts complex technology including:
high-speed, T-1 Internet access, video conferencing capabilities, access to audio/visual equipment
and computers, access to a centralized business center with support services, and individual computer
laptop stations.
The meeting room environment offers the following features: ergonomic chairs with adjustable height
controls, knee tilt, swivel, and high backs for comfort, training tables with an ergonomic wood edge,
non-glare work-surface, power and data ports for laptop computers and wire management, and tables
that can be reconfigured for flexible meeting styles. Each room also contains sliding marker boards,
tackable wall surfaces, presentation rails which provide ultimate flexibility for presentations and
brainstorming meetings; lighting fixtures which are dimmable and have non-glare diffusers, and power
and data outlets.
At Omaha and Berkeley, the renovation included a complete restaurant buffet reconstruction, custom
designed mobile cooking carts, and continuous break counters.
The EMCs offer three specific meeting packages: Complete Meeting Package (CMP); Modified Meeting
Package (MMP) and a Day Meeting Package (DMP). The packages include: a dedicated Conference Planner,
conference rooms available on a 24 hour basis, continuous refreshment breaks, full-American breakfast
buffets, hot and cold luncheon buffet, business and concierge services, and an inclusive audio/visual
package. Each property has a conference services support team that includes a dedicated conference
planning manager, dedicated conference service support staff, an EMC director that oversees service
operations, business and concierge service staff, and technical support staff.
The Doubletree Lloyd Center & Executive Meeting Center, Portland
The Doubletree Lloyd Center has received provisional approval from IACC and is one of only a few
facilities in the Pacific Northwest to meet the rigorous IACC requirements. When complete, the EMC
will offer 8,500 square feet of dedicated executive meeting space with state-of-the-art audio-visual
and technology capabilities, dining, services and conference support similar to the Omaha and
Berkeley EMCs.
